Newness

Our church hosted a night of prayer and worship as well as a "big splash". (Big splash is a night where you can come and be baptized.) We decided we were going to attend this event and told the boys to get ready shortly before we needed to leave. Nathan told Trevor and he asked what we were going there for, after his explanation, Trevor announced that he wanted to be baptized there. Without hesitation, he began gather a change of clothes for himself. We talked with him a bit, confirming he wanted to follow through this evening, he answered a firm yes every time. We acknowledged his decision with our support and then Nathan briefly went over scriptures with him regarding the decision. We got to the church and had about 15 minutes of time in the pews before they started some of the baptisims and asked Trevor if he wanted to go on back, he did. I have to say, Nathan and I weren't sure if he would have the courage to follow through, being Trevor is our more "reserved" son. :o) He was ready to go. We were escorted by one of our wonderful ministers to a room to talk with an elder and fill out a form stating his decision. He got his picture taken (they post the pictures of those baptized on the screens during worship services. So, his picture should run next Sunday.) Then, we waited in a fairly long line for the bastismal. (This was because it was a Big Splash night and so many had come with the same decision.) We realized, the closer we got, that Trevor hadn't brought a shirt to change into/from....so we improvised and Nathan provided his undershirt for Trevor. (The church has several shirts we could have used, but this was easiest for us.) At our church, you have the option of a silent or "singing" baptism....meaning, it can be during a song by the worship team, or a moment all by iteself. This is something new that our church as done...most do it during a song, which is what Trevor chose. I don't even remember the song that was playing! ;o) Trevor asked our children's minister, Pastor Jim, to baptize him, Jim explained the process and then it was our turn. I tried to take in the moment, all while trying to capture it on film....but it went so fast! I will post the pics, but some of them are blurry. Trevor is beyond excited!!! He received so many well wishes and congratulations from our church family last night!!! Trevor was one of 47 baptisms yesterday alone!!!! He is so excited!!! He keeps talking about how he feels brand new! He feels God told him, "Trevor you made the right choice to be baptized". :o) Join us in celebrating his newfound faith!!
