Daisy is the neighbor's dog. And our dog.....kinda. We met Daisy when we were building our house. She would trot past our lot, glancing over at us as she passed. Sometimes she'd stop and watch us, but as soon as we showed interest and tried to get her to come near, she'd continue on her way. She kept this up for a month or two after we moved in. Then, she realized that I was throwing out food for the birds....(the crusts off the kids sandwiches or scraps, etc.). That hooked her...from then on, she added us to her "route". (Seriously, she had a route that she took--one yard to the next.....every day) One day, she decided to come up to us and see what we were all about. Getting to play with the kids and get lots of love and attention, she adopted us as her second family. She hangs out in our yard all the time--especially when the kids are out. She loves to help protect us from "strangers" that might be walking past our house--she loves to show off her bark and her quick running, but in reality, she never met someone she didn't like--her ever-wagging tail proves that!) She patrols this section of the neighborhood. Every morning when they let her out, she steps outside and lets out one bark--just to let everyone know her shift has begun. :-) She then proceeds to survey her yard and then, if all looks okay, she begins her route and ends up at our back porch. I am usually there after my morning walk and visit for a minute or two. She will spend most of the morning just off our back porch and leave during mid-day and return late afternoon until it's time for bed and she's called in for the night. We just LOVE Daisy. She's our adopted dog..for now. (She was upset with us a bit after we got Cocoa----I think she felt replaced and we were off the "route" for a bit. It was comical.) After sending Cocoa to Poppy's, we have found Daisy to be theraputic...she's there for some loving, but we don't have the full responsibility of her. She even joins us on walks and bike rides.....the whole time she walks ahead of us--like she's not really "with" us, but always looking out of the corner of her eye to see which way we're going. :-) She is such a great dog and we're so thankful for her.
