Swimming Lessons

Webb City's schools offer FREE swim lessons for 2 weeks to students entering Kindergarten every year. We didn't take advantage of it with Trevor, but I decided to try it with Cody. It's held at the high school's swimming pool....which I heard is FREEZING! (Poor Cody, some days he just didn't want to go b/c of the water! But he stuck it out!) There are 5 stations and once you reach station 5, (jumping off the diving board into the deep end) you're done. Cody advanced rather quickly--the first station was just getting the kids used to the water--Cody LOVES the water! One of the steps was to put your face in the water, which Cody has willingly done since he was about 2 or 3. The next station was swimming out to an instructor and working on back floating. Station 3 stretched the distance of swimming to an instructor and back floating. Station 4 and 5 go together--beginning with jumping off the side of the pool (4.5 ft) and swimming to the instructor and back floating back. They work on back floating b/c it's the "safe" position, if you can't "swim". After they jumped off the "shallow" side, they moved to jumping off the deep end side of the pool and swimming all the way across the pool and at their next turn jumping and swimming back across the pool. Then, they got to move on to the diving board. Jumping off the diving board and swimming to the side of the pool. Cody advanced to station 4-5 on Tuesday of this week and we had our last day on Wednesday, repeating the last station for extra "practice".
First day...getting ready to get into the water.
Station 2...working on the back float.Swimming across the deep end. I don't have pics of station 3--they were right under us so it was hard to get a pic.Getting ready to jump off the diving board.
Here he goes!!
