What's Happening with the Herndons?

Trevor: T is enjoying 3rd grade. We had a somewhat "rough" start to school--he was apprehensive for the first few days of school. I think he enjoyed his summer so much it was hard to leave it behind for the "rigorous" day of school....even though he was excited to see all his friends again. He's been reunited with some old friends from last year and quickly made new friends as well. We did have some issues with talking in class and having to pull his name (kind of a "merit" system--everyone starts on blue, then you go to green, then yellow w/ a note sent hom and then red and a trip to the principal) and a couple of notes sent home. But, Trevor has worked hard to reach a goal of not pulling his name and has reached that goal for several weeks! (With the help of some reward incentives to get the ball rolling!) :o) He enjoys his teacher, who says he is a great helper in class. He is full on into reading--we have to keep reminding him to pick books that are on his reading level. He's so excited to move on up, that he doesn't always pick the easiest books. ;o) He has recently discovered a book series called Captain Underpants--a book geared towards little boys, as it seems to have lots of "toilet humor"--boogers, noises, etc. :o) Boys..... He plays his DS like crazy--we have to ask him to put it down and take a break! :o) He's so good at it he amazes us--he can get a new game and figure it out so quickly. Lots of things that he used to like have now become "baby" things. :o) He's wanting a change in his room decor and certainly in the clothes he puts on---it's all about image, you know. :o) *sigh* I think we are slowly approaching the curve that is "pre-teen", which ultimately leads to the teen years. It's not here yet, but I can see it in the distance.

Cody: Cody loves Kindergarten! He's adjusted well to school and is doing well too. He's learning to write his letters and sight words and slowly practicing for learning to read them too. He is always singing something he learned at school. :o) He loves getting to ride the bus with Trevor and the neighbor kids. It's fun hearing about his days in Kindergarten....oh to have that life! :o) It's so cute to watch him at school as I drop him off--he is sure to follow the rules of walking properly in the halls (with your hands behind your back). He was "caught" running in the halls once by another teacher and was very embarrassed to have to practice walking in the halls....and very "disheartened" to be "in trouble"--really it was just a warning. :o) He really enjoys Show and Tell days. When he comes home, the first thing he does is pull out all of his papers to show me. :o) He doesn't have much homework--mostly just practicing writing his color words--this week is brown. He doesn't like to do that too much--they learn quickly don't they?! I think he dislikes it b/c it takes up precious play time!! :o)

All 4 of us enjoy Nathan not having school this year! It's so nice to have him home (and not doing homework) in the evenings and on weekends!
