New member of the family

We promised Trevor we would get a dog once our yard was done and he has reminded us of that promise regularly. Nathan and I found a chocolate lab in the paper a couple of weeks ago and when to look at her and decided she would be ours. We waited to pick her up in order to prepare for her and to surprise Trevor. After gathering all our dog necesseties and waiting on the weather, we went to pick up our puppy, Cocoa. She is almost 5 months old and very sweet. She is loving and getting more and more playful with us as she gets to know us. She is crate trained, which is great b/c we intended to crate her overnight while she is so young. She is in our basement overnight and when we are away for extended time. Yesterday and today she is getting to run and play all day outside, however she stays on the back porch steps a lot. :-) Our cat, Chloe, is not too happy. She sits at the back door and growls, hisses, and even hits the door, hoping her paw (and claws) will somehow reach through the glass and teach that puppy who's boss! Trevor is ready to take Cocoa out to potty every morning with Nathan. Cocoa is really good at "fetch"--her favorite toy is an Old Navy fire hydrant dog toy that we bought at a garage sale for .50! It squeaks and she lieks that. She keeps bringing it to the back door and leaving it on the steps and if it disappears, it returns to the back steps eventually. What a new adventure.
