Reading Rewards

Trevor's school has a reading incentive program. The students read books worth a set amount of points and then test on them. Based on their test scores, they recieve .5 or 1 point and after so many accrued points, they reach the 10 pt, 25 pt, 50 pt, 75 pt and 105 pt "club". Each "club" offers an announcement on the intercom, a certificate verifying reaching said club, a button to pin on your backpack (with the number of the club you've reached) and a special reward, such as lunch with your teacher, reading to another class, or a swim party at the end of the year. The highest club (105) awards a trophy! Trevor reached the 50 point club last Th! He has done SO well this year in his reading. He set a goal for the 50 pt club quite a while back, and was so focused on reaching that, that he rushed through several books--including some that were just too hard for his level--and scored poorly on his testing. Otherwise, he could/would have reached the 50 pt club a while ago. (The books the students read are not only assigned a certain point level, but they're also assinged a colored "dot" based on the level/difficulty of reading. Trevor tends to focus solely on the dot color he's reading rather than on the point level. He has to read "chapter books" (they're very short, but they do have chapters and much more challenging words/reading for his level) to gain the higher points. We are allowed to read them to him, which is nice.) He invited me to walk him in to school Friday morning to see his name on the 50 pt list. Mrs. Mitchell then invited me to stay and hear Trevor's name on the morning announcements. Trevor is so proud of himself. Our next goal, is the 75 pt club with the reward of "swim party". We have until May 19th...so, we are really amping up the encouragement and "prodding" this time to reach our 75 pt goal. :o)
