It was hard to get up this morning....after a week of sleeping in. (By that I mean getting up closer to 7, instead of 6). We are back at it today. We had SUCH a WONDERFUL spring break!! Great weather and just nice, relaxing fun!
The boys went to mom and dad's (Gumma and Poppy's) Wed-Sat a.m. They had a blast! They went to Bass Pro Shops and Krispy Kreme--a tradition with them and Trevor (and now, of course, Cody) since Trevor was about 1. :o) They look forward to it every visit! They love to go and look at all the fish and turtles in BPS. Gumma saves up pennies to toss into the turtle "pond" and the boys love to see if they can get one to land on a turtle! :o) Thursday, they got to go with G&P to pick up some new "chickies". Dad started raising chickens a couple of years ago to get free eggs. They have been a lot of fun to watch. Lately, the population has dwindled due to some hungry raccoons! So, the flock needed replenishing. The new chicks were carefully watched over by two little boys. Friday, Gumma took the boys fishing at Poppy's pond and in the evening, Poppy made a bonfire to roast hot dogs (and get rid of some brush piles). They weren't ready to leave all the fun of "the farm", but they were glad to be back home! We sure missed them, but really enjoyed our time together too.
Nathan and I kicked off our time together with lunch Wednesday. Then I spent the afternoon catching up on some Beth Moore videos from my Esther study. (I had to miss while I was sick) So nice to have uninterrupted time! :o) We chose to stay home Wed night and enjoyed a walk in the nice weather (and time to talk w/o having to tell anyone to stay on the side of the road, etc!) :o) Thursday, I enjoyed a full day of shopping and trying on clothes.....something I don't get to do much of! Thursday night, we decided to try a restaraunt we'd never been to before in Baxter Springs, KS--which is just about 15-20 minutes from Joplin. It's called Cafe on the Route. It's been featured on the Food Network show, Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. It was so good!! Nathan took Friday off to enjoy some time together. We slept in and then headed out for a day of miscelaneous shopping, eating and leisure. We have lived in Joplin for about 15-16 years and have always wanted to visit a local museum--the Joplin Mineral Museum--which houses the mining history of the area. This was the perfect time to visit....no kids and the admission was free for Spring Break! We enjoyed wandering through at our own pace and looking over the pictures of old miners and the beginnings of Joplin. Interesting! Then, we ate at another place we've never tried--Hackett Hot Wings. Our church featured them in a series in January titled Soul Food. It looked so good we knew we had to try it. It didn't disappoint! We spent the rest of the afternoon shopping around. We ended the evening w/ dinner out at Cheddars--one of our favorites. (We used saved up anniversary money for all our eating out! We chose to eat out b/c we never do anymore--so this was our chance! So fun, but the scale reading isn't!! ) :o)
Such a wonderful week and we're so thankful to the Lord for his graciousness in our visits and time alone and together! What a blessing! ( I will have some pics from the start of our week and more posts...working on it today. ) :o)
