It's Friday....but Sunday's coming!

Actually, it's Saturday. But, I love that poem--read by what sounds like an African American about the death of Jesus. We have seen it at church, accompanied by edited pieced of The Passion of the Christ. Brings reflection this Easter weekend. I found myself thinking yesterday about Christ and what he went through TH night and Friday.....wow. He KNEW what was coming and He faced it. I read the story of the last supper and the Garden of Gethsemane this week. Jesus asked God 3-4 times to please take this cup from him. But, in the end, He reluctantly succombs to God's will. How poweful and heartbreaking all at the same time. Our blessed Savior, born in the flesh, acting in the flesh--asking God to please spare him! Yet, knowing what He was sent to do, willingly going forward to scorn, beatings and excrutiating death. All for me. And you.

I wondered last night too, what must the disciples have been thinking (not to mention, Mary too) that Good Friday night. They just buried their Messiah--THE Messiah. Not knowing what was to come. We, at least, know how the story "ends". We know, even though he dies, He raises, victoriously, from the dead. And ultimately, we know, in the very end, He will come again and claim the ultimate victory over death and evil! What a celebration we have before us--marking the rolled away stone and Jesus, raising from the dead, solidifying the hope we have that He will one day come back for us!

Happy Easter weekend!
